This pen and ink sketch on paper portrays a scene of everyday Indian (village) life or in other words cover a certain aspect of rural existence. This work has attributes of Nandlal Bose, though it is unsigned but the artistic discipline and simple subject matter favoring this statement.

In this simple composition we see back view of a villager or herdsman standing under a barren tree holding a stick possibly, he is in the search of his animals. There are three small huts in the background which gives a sense of distance. Overall the composition is very simple but enough to express the hardship of the rural life.

Bose most famous work series known as Haripura panel paintings also depicts similar simple subjects of rural India. He painted these panels on the Gandhi's request to mark the congress session in Gujrat.
