The work depicts resilience and hardship of 'Santhal' women in village. He integrated elements of Santhal Tribal art and life into his own work and enhanced them by an understanding of expressionism.

Baj has probably created this work in his early years of Shantiniketan. The works done in seminal style of the artist that gave importance to depicting life as he saw it rather than making their portraits look realistic. However, Baj's early works like this one greatly influenced by impressionism and cubism.

Artist has created a sense of energy and movement from these sculptural figures with angular detaling. The combination of two colours green and yellow applied by the artist in impressionist manner. This work is all about colours splash with brilliant effect, lines swirl in a cadence.
