Size: Frame Size: 81.5 x 69.5 cm (32 x 27 Inches), Image Size: 63 x 46 cm (24 x 18 Inches)This a portrait of Maharaja Madho Singh of Jaipur which is painted in a style heavily influenced by European photographic conventions of the time. This work features the ruler proudly gazing straight towards the viewer. His high status is shown by his costly and highly embellished garment and ornaments. The royal sword which he holds from his left hand and medals on his right shoulder establishes him as the defender of the realm. The Turban he wears suggests his cultural sensitivity. The lighter tone of blue background create balance with the dark tone of velvet garment however we can also see minimal use of gold, red, grey, pink and white for minute detailing.
