The reverse of the canvas contains labels or documents from the Goa College of Art: a large official certificate dated 2009 confirming that a group of students were bona fide fourth-year BFA (Painting) candidates submitting work to the Bombay Art Society’s Annual Art Exhibition, and a smaller student record slip featuring an ID-style photograph, stamped academic details, and handwritten course information, indicating the artwork was likely associated with a student’s academic submission or exhibition entry during that period.

This work by the Goa-based contemporary artist deploys a refined visual language that blends figuration, symbolism, and a quiet sense of mythopoesis. The composition is constructed in a manner reminiscent of modern Indian painters who drew freely from vernacular idioms and Indo-European modernism, yet the artist infuses it with a distinctly coastal Goa sensibility—a softened palette, porous forms, and an atmosphere of contemplative stillness.

The monumental visage on the right, framed by petal-like motifs, recalls the hieratic frontality of early devotional imagery while simultaneously echoing the psychological inwardness associated with twentieth-century expressionism. Its warm, earth-toned surface evokes the tactility of aged fresco or temple wall painting, lending the work an archaic, timeless aura. In contrast, the blue, spectral figure in the foreground introduces a liminal presence—part human, part ethereal—rendered in translucent layers that suggest both embodiment and absence.

The hovering bee functions as a symbolic mediator, a motif often associated with fertility, memory, and metamorphosis in art-historical traditions across cultures. Here it animates the space between the two figures, suggesting an intersubjective exchange or a quiet metaphysical tension.

Overall, the painting reads as a poetic allegory, one that merges personal mythology with art-historical echoes to explore intimacy, presence, and the spiritual ecology of human relationships.
