This compelling portrait captures the quiet fortitude of rural life through a figure rendered with remarkable restraint and emotional depth. The man stands firmly, supported by a staff, while a draped 'gamcha' rests on his shoulder, objects that speak subtly yet powerfully of labour, endurance, and lived experience. Defined by assertive black contours and an earthy, muted palette, the composition emphasizes structure and presence over embellishment, allowing the sitter’s steady gaze and upright stance to dominate the frame.

The textured brushwork and layered tonalities reveal a sensitivity to character and environment that anchors the work’s enduring appeal.

Significantly, this painting is published in 'Thota Vaikuntham', Art Alive Masters Series (Art Alive Gallery, New Delhi, 2005), edited by Sushma Bahl, where it is highlighted as an important work of the artist’s evolving engagement with the life and spirit of rural Telangana.

The oil on canvas artwork is in overall good condition. Previously, the area around the lips was carefully restored by adhering an approximately 4.5 x 8 cm cloth patch from the reverse, which has been well integrated and remains stable. The surface exhibits only sporadic, minor paint losses that do not detract from the overall integrity or visual appeal of the work. The painting presents as well-preserved, with no significant structural or surface issues, and continues to display its original artistic qualities effectively.
