Created by artist Amit Das using watercolour and wash on paper, these two works reflect strong East and South Asian influences characteristic of Santiniketan's Pan-Asian artistic ethos. The work portrays bamboo in the traditional East Asian ink-painting manner, using varied brushwork to contrast dark, expressive leaves with two vertical stalks, a prominent green one on the left and a lighter one on the right set against a soft yellow-tan wash.
Given the rarity of this work and the significance of the artist’s practice, these material choices carry a distinct personal and intentional character. The use of folded paper and marginal strips suggests a thoughtful, handcrafted approach, where presentation becomes part of the artistic language, enhancing the intimacy and uniqueness of the work rather than indicating any condition-related concern.
