This nude study of a woman demonstrates his profound understanding of the human body and its curves.
Khastgir excelled not only in painting but also in sculpture and portraiture, showing mastery in the study of human form. His depictions of women are often inspired by the subtle details and natural elegance of the female body. This unfinished sketch of a woman likely represents a study, a step toward creating a larger, more complete composition.
Sudhir Ranjan Khastgir was one of the modernists from Bengal who, despite being trained at Santiniketan, did not adhere to its artistic doctrines, nor to any other prevailing style of the time.
