Quintin Craufurd (1743–1819) was a British author from Kilwinning, Scotland, who served in the British East India Company before settling in Paris. He believed that the Islamic invasions had resulted in general decline and stagnation of science in the subcontinent. He also suggested that the historic isolation of India and the secretiveness of Brahmin castes had discouraged critical and creative thinking and hence advances in scientific knowledge.
