ABDUR REHMAN CHUGHTAI'S NOTABLE BOOKS OF HIS OWN PAINTINGS

SET OF TWO BOOKS (I) MURAQQA-I-CHUGHTAI 1928 (II) CHUGHTAIS PAINTINGS 1970

(I) MURAQQA-I-CHUGHTAI
PAINTINGS OF M. A. RAHMAN CHUGHTAI

Year:1928

Introduction by Dr James H Cousins
Foreword by Sir Muhammad Iqbal

Size: 29.5 x 23.5 cm (11.6 x 9.2 inches)

First Edition

Published by Jahangir Book Club, Chabuk Swaran, Lahore (India)

No. of Illustrations: 27 Coloured Illustrations

This book is a first edition, not a later reprint, as it was published by Jahangir Book Club, Lahore prior to the Partition. Although no date is mentioned in the book, the artist originally published it in 1928. He later reprinted it in the 1970s through his own press, Print Printo. Since Jahangir Book Club was an established pre-Partition printing house, this confirms that the present copy dates from the original 1928 edition.

Muraqqa-i-Chughtai is an illustrated edition of Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalibs Diwan-e-Ghalib, featuring selected couplets paired with Chughtais watercolor illustrations.

BINDING: Hardbound with a lather brown cover, this book features a gold gilded title and an auspicious Cyperus tree motif on the front. The back showcases the title in elegant Persian calligraphy

(II) CHUGHTAIS PAINTINGS

Year: 1970

Size: 12.9 x 10 Inches (33 x 25.5 cm)

Published by: Print Printo Press.

Foreword by Dr. James H. Cousins
Critical annotations by Mrs. Razia Siraj-ud-Din.

No. of Illustrations : 45 Illustrations

This edition is noted for its high-quality production, with plates tipped in and accompanied by descriptive annotations. The illustrations capture the essence of Chughtai's unique style, which blends elements of Mughal miniature painting, and other Islamic art traditions. His works often draw inspiration from Indo-Islamic legends, folklore, and history.

BINDING: Hardbound in a red cloth cover, this book features a gold-gilded English title and a circular decorative motif. The binding is simple yet elegant.
